2010 PROGRAM
Performance & Workshop at Arts Education Forum
20 February, Lewellyn Hall, Canberra

Quantum Leapers present Moving On, a short performance looking at the transitions students make as they progress from primary school to tertiary education. Ruth Osborne and Quantum Leapers also present a workshop on collaborative approaches to dance making.

Kick Back

21, 28 February, 7, 14 March, QL2 Studio, Canberra

A series of 4 specialist classes for boys and young men with guest teachers Marko Panzic and Rowan Marchingo, with local teachers from QL2 and Fresh Funk. A small showing will complete the workshop at the QL2 Studio on 14 March.

Soft Landing 1 - 'The Dancer Lands'

15 March – 11 April, QL2 Theatre & Studio

Recent graduates from tertiary dance institutions around Australia work with Solon Ulbrich in a collaborative professional development program. It concludes with an "in progress" performance showing at the QL2 Theatre.

Victoria School of the Arts, Canada - QL2 Collaboration

Until 23 May, Victoria School of the Arts, Edmonton, Alberta, Canada

Selected members of the QL2 Core Group collaborate via Facebook with 16 dancers between 14-17 in the Victoria School of the Arts (VSA) in Canada to produce a dance video integrated into a live dance performance in the VSA. The video features site-specific choreography by the QL2 dancers, with support and mentorship from Ruth Osborne and Liz Lea, and video produced by Sarah Kaur.

'Standing in Line in Order of Height' – Singapore-Australia International Collaboration

10, 11, 12 June, QL2 Theatre, Canberra

18, 19 June, The Esplanade Theatres, Singapore

QL2 teams up with Maya Dance Theatre from Singapore to make a new cross-cultural collaborative dance work, with performance season both in Canberra and Singapore. Emerging dancers from Singapore and Australia work with Liz Lea, Kavitha Krishnan and Ruth Osborne to investigate culturally-specific emotive movement vocabulary.

'Night. Time.' – Quantum Leap at the Playhouse

28 – 31 July, The Canberra Theatre Playhouse

Quantum Leap’s major project for the year focuses on the activities and inner lives of young people between dusk and dawn. Ruth Osborne and guest choreographers Anton, Jodie Farugia, Adam Wheeler and Marnie Palomares work with dancers from Canberra and the region, as well as visiting dancers from Thailand. Night. Time. also features an original score composed for the performance by Adam Ventoura and an intricate layer of video designed by Bearcage Productions.

Autumnal - 'Exciting a Blush'
11 July - 15 August, performances 13-15 August

With a Grant of Space and projecy support from QL2, new performance collective Autumnal are returning home to present their new dance work, Exciting a Blush. 'Five individuals intersect in moments of heightened self-awareness where bodies can betray their keepers by unintentionally broadcasting internal emotions.'

Originating from Canberra, Autumnal members are now carving out their place in Australia’s artistic landscape. Exciting a Blush marks the return of these artists to Canberra, where their careers were ignited and kick started through QL2's Quantum Leap and Soft Landing initiatives. Autumnal's ties to Canberra as a home place, training place, and arts place, have brought them back to share with the community their talent and creative vision, as they proudly return home to make their debut.

Soft Landing 2 2010 - The Choreographer in Group-devised Work: "In the public domain"

16 August – 12 September. QL2 Theatre & Studio & NewActon Arts & Culture Precinct, Canberra

Recent graduates from tertiary dance institutions around Australia work with Brian Lucas in a collaborative professional development program. Over a 4-week intensive period, Soft Landing 2 will focus on the choreographer in group-devised work, finishing with a public performance season presented by the NewActon public program.

'Hard Yards' – Chaos Project

15, 16 October, Yarralumla Woolshed, Canberra

QL2’s project for younger or less experienced dancers culminates this year in a performance showing at the Yarralumla Woolshed. This unusual venue inspires choreographers Liz Lea and Dean Cross to work with Ruth Osborne and a large group of young dancers to make a work about the ethics of hard work, and what it means to put in the hard yards.

Hot to Trot

27 & 28 November, QL2 Theatre, Canberra

Senior dancers from Quantum Leap choreograph their own short dance works with their peers from the ensemble in this project under the mentorship of Ruth Osborne and Liz Lea, and present them at an often sold-out performance season. Recent seasons have included dance films as well, and we look forward to their inclusion this year.

On Course

11 & 12 December, QL2 Theatre, Canberra

Attracting dance students from around Australia, On Course offers the opportunity for tertiary students to choreograph their own works, and dance in other students’ works. Choreographers will present their work at a short and very popular performance season. Dancers often reconnect and make establish new relationships with their peers from different tertiary institutions, and can use this project to develop ideas seeded during their courses.
