Hot to Trot is a mentored project for young choreographers in Quantum Leap, giving you an opportunity to choreograph a short work with support in all aspects of the process. It is an invaluable experience to develop yourself as a dance-maker. The chosen choreographers will receive not only mentoring support, but also publicity and administrative support, and rehearsal and performance venues.
We highly encourage you to submit a well-considered application to be a choreographer. Applications will be judged by a panel, and up to 8 choreographers will be chosen to be part of this year’s Hot to Trot program.
Your work can be up to 8 minutes long. All choreographers are offered at least 6 rehearsals of 3 hours in length in either the Studio or the Theatre with at least two rehearsals in the QL2 Theatre where the performances will take place.
We will allot you the number of dancers that you require within reason; and we have final say on who performs in what. Costumes, props and effects need to be kept to a minimum, as there are many works and not a lot of time for production.
This project is about choreographic development. Reflecting this, all selected choreographers are required to participate in a Hot to Trot Choreographic Workshop, in addition to the rehearsals for their own pieces. This is aimed to help with the development of Hot to Trot pieces by working through various areas of composition and information sharing.
We are hoping to get a strong response for Hot to Trot, but if we do not have enough choreographers, we cannot go ahead. If you cannot do Hot to Trot, please share your reasons with us on the last page.
Hot to Trot is a subsidised project and so there are no project fees.
I am happy to meet with anyone who is considering applying but is uncertain. Please call for an appointment.
Send your application to QL2 by Friday 9 September. We will contact you when the applications have been assessed.
This is a great way to end the year so don’t miss out!
