UPDATE: QL2 Dance's 2010 Chaos project Hard yards wins Australian Dance Award!
Junior project auditions:
"It's all good"
40 young dancers,
great choreographers
Our “Chaos” project each year gives younger and less experienced dancers a great opportunity to get into our unique program, building confidence and skills in a creative and physically challenging environment. For many, it can be a natural progression to Quantum Leap in later years. And plenty of older dancers are involved as well — challenging themselves, and inspiring the younger ones.
It’s all good is an exploration of how we talk about what we feel. Do you really mean what you say? Language changes every day. How do we know what anyone means?
The choreographers
We’ve got three wonderful choreographers to work with Artistic Director Ruth Osborne. Caitlin Mackenzie was a Quantum Leaper with QL2 from 2004. As a QUT graduate, she was in our Soft Landing program, and was a member of Link Dance Company in WA. She was in an award-winning work in Short Sweet + Dance, Sydney, and in Garry Stewart’s film Collision Course. Chafia Brookes was in Quantum Leap in 2000, and graduated from QUT. She is an independent artist who has worked throughout Australia and overseas, with Claire Marshall, Joseph Lau, Ricky Sim and Dancers (Singapore), Rebecca Hilton, Sela Kiek and Expressions Dance Company. Gabe Comerford is an emerging artist who has been involved with QL2’s Soft Landing and On Course projects. A QUT graduate, he has worked with Compagnié MADO in New Caledonia, Dancenorth, and Brisbane based MakeShift Dance Collective. He also made the Top 40 of So You Think You Can Dance Australia.

How to get into “It’s all good”
In the audition workshop, we will lead you through a dance class and some fun creative games. You don’t have to prepare— but it will help if you are doing some dance or movement classes before you start. We want lots of different kinds of dancers to have a go. The audition is free.
The schedule
You’ll need to attend all the workshops — you will be creating the work with the choreographers, so you can’t miss anything!
Applications due Friday 29 July No applications on the day of the audition!

Classes are essential!
Everyone in It’s all good must regularly attend dance classes, with us or elsewhere. You can come to our Junior Licence to Move (boys 8-14 years), Junior Contemporary (mixed 8-15 years), or QL2 Company Training workshops. Or if you are already doing solid technique classes, ask (in writing) for an exemption from the Artistic Director.
Cost
The project is heavily subsidized. The total cost to you for this project is $200 (including project t-shirt and QL2 hoodie), plus the cost of classes at $12/class (paid by the term). You can also buy a DVD of the show for $30. Note that no video or photography is allowed during the performances.
Financial hardship?
We are a non-profit organization, and aim to keep costs very reasonable. We offer a bursary system to financially assist you if the cost prevents you being in a project. To make an appointment to discuss this, please phone Ruth Osborne on 0418 943 857.
