Join ‘Name Game’: create a new dance piece with amazing choreographers, and get on stage!
Register for the audition workshop, where we will lead you through a dance class and some cool and creative dance games. You don’t have to prepare. It helps if you’re doing some dance or movement classes before you start, but not essential: we want lots of different kinds of dancers to have a go. The audition is free.
DATES: Sundays from 9 September; Intensive 7-13 October; Production 16–20 October.
CHOREOGRAPHERS: Caitlin Mackenzie was a Quantum Leaper with QL2 from 2004. A QUT graduate, she was in an award-winning work in Short Sweet + Dance, Sydney, and in Garry Stewart’s film Collision Course. Matt Cornell has worked in Australia, Europe and SE Asia with DanceNorth, Shaun Parker and Company, Lucy Guerin Inc, and others. He was the 2011 NT Young Achiever of the Year for Arts. Gabe Comerford is a QUT graduate, and has worked with Compagnié MADO in New Caledonia, Dancenorth, and MakeShift Dance Collective. They will be working under QL2 Artistic Director Ruth Osborne.
Who is it for?
This project gives younger and less experienced dancers a great opportunity to get into our unique program, building confidence and skills. It can be a natural progression to our Quantum Leap ensemble in later years, or can be a trial run to see if you like contemporary dance. And plenty of older dancers are involved as well.

You’ll need to attend all the workshops unless you get advance permission — you will be creating the work with the choreographers, so you can’t miss anything!

Classes are essential!
Everyone in Name Game must regularly attend dance classes, with us or elsewhere. You can come to our Junior Licence to Move (boys 8-14 years), Junior Contemporary (mixed 8-15 years), or QL2 Company Training workshops. Or if you are already doing solid technique classes elsewhere, ask (in writing) for an exemption from the Artistic Director.
Cost
We are non-profit, and the project is heavily subsidised. The total cost to you is $200 (including project t-shirt and QL2 hoodie), plus the cost of classes at $12/class (paid by the term).
