STOP PRESS: CLOSING DATE NOW 9 DECEMBER
We're a bit worried that some eligible people heard about "Soft Landing" too late -- or haven't heard at all!
Yes, the original closing date has passed. And we need to assess and get back to you by 20 December. BUT… if you're having trouble getting your application in, or you only just heard about Soft Landing, then contact us right now!
So if you graduate this year, apply now! Or if you know someone who is graduating (or who graduated in the last 2 years), elbow them in the ribs and tell them to apply!
And make sure to let us know its on the way.

Apply now! new dance graduates (one or 2 years out)
A fantastic free 4-week development opportunity with Amelia McQueen, Gabrielle Nankivell, and Solon Ulbrich
Soft Landing 2012: 'you are your clay' 1 – 27 February 2012
Soft Landing is a collaborative professional development program at QL2 Dance, Canberra. This program offers a unique opportunity for 8-12 tertiary dance graduates to engage, collaborate and forge creative partnerships for the future. Soft Landing supports recent graduates during the difficult transition from the tertiary course into the dance profession.
Independent dancer and choreographer Amelia McQueen will be full-time director Soft Landing 1 for 2012. Amelia has had extensive experience in previous Soft Landings, working closely with Solon Ulbrich in developing and refining the program. Visiting Artists Gabrielle Nankivell and Solon Ulbrich will work intensively with you for two days each: sharing their process, revealing their working life, challenging you physically, and stimulating new perceptions of your dance future.
In a demanding non-university setting, Soft Landing will develop your capacity to respond to choreographers with professional rigour, choreographic intelligence and an awareness of context. You will maintain and extend dance training, share knowledge and skills with interstate graduates, and launch a creative practice for the future.
It concludes with an "in progress" performance showing at QL2’s theatre. You will undertake a full time creative process including daily technique class, choreographic research, and mentored feedback. You will contribute research tasks and creative materials relevant to your personal goals. There will also be sessions on practical information including copyright and risk management; and opportunities to develop teaching and production skills.
Can I apply?
All dance graduates within the first two years after completing their degree are eligible.
Soft Landing has a core period of 4 weeks in Canberra, with a timetable filling 5-6 days per week. You must make a clear commitment to the entire process and be available full-time for the period.
You should also be prepared to engage in online discussion and research prior to the studio development: and we will provide limited online and phone mentoring support after this.
Costs
There is no fee to participate, and QL2 will pay you an allowance of $200 towards your costs. You must make your own arrangements for your stay in Canberra.
While we have been unsuccessful in getting funding to increase the stipend, Soft Landing 2011 is confirmed, and will definitely go ahead. Thanks to our donors!
