METTLE. An old word for a new generation.

Within a cavernous concrete bunker, in the depths of winter, we prepare to make a slippery descent.

METTLE is a raw, powerful performance created by choreographers Alice Lee Holland and Jack Ziesing, in collaboration with thirteen young dance artists from Kamberri.

Armoured in costumes by Aleisa Jelbart and surrounded by a visceral soundscape (Sascha Budimski), the tightknit ensemble encounter challenges seemingly insurmountable, within immersive visuals (Creswick Collective).

Through grit and pressure comes evolution.

  • Seating for this performance is general admission. Accessible seating is located in the front row, level with the performance area. Please let us know your access requirements when making your booking.

  • This performance runs for approximately 60 minutes without interval.

  • METTLE is a contemporary dance performance with video elements that surround the performance space. While the overall work is abstract, METTLE will include moods, sounds and choreographic qualities that some audience members may find unsettling. The performance is suitable for audiences aged 8+ or with parental discretion.

    Please note, there will be moments of total blackout and strobing visuals.

  • The performance on Sunday 26 July, 5pm will be audio described. This is a live commentary of the performances by a trained audio describer for patrons who are blind or have low vision. The Audio Description will be relayed via a free headset and receiver. Please feel free to bring your own headphones if you would like.

Pricing information

  • Standard tickets are $40.

  • Concession tickets are $35.

    Valid concessions are: Pension card, Full time student, U18.

  • Members of Quantum Leap Australia are entitled to 1 ticket at $28 per member. Members will have to provide their name at the time of booking.

  • Members of the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community are able to access tickets for $30.

  • Each performance has 10 tickets available at a base price of $15. If this allocation has been exhausted but you would still like to access it, please send us an email: admin@ql2.org.au.

  • There is plenty of on-site parking surrounding The Vault including accessible parking options.

  • The Vault has wheelchair access via a roller door and on-grade access to bathrooms. We encourage patrons to let us know about any access requirements they might have at the time of booking.

  • Bathrooms are located inside building 3, next to Canteen. Ask a venue manager for way-finding to exterior access to bathrooms after hours. The toilet facilities include an accessible toilet and baby change area.

  • The Vault has a variety of heating appliances to make sure you are warm and cosy, including a fan-boosted wood fire.
